    Tillamook Bay spring chinook are coveted for their delicious meat high in oils containing healthy omega 3 fatty acids. A Tillamook Bay springer usually pushes 15-20 lbs, bigger on average than their Columbia River counterparts.

    One of our favorite destinations, Nehalem Bay is home to the only true run of summer chinook on the Oregon coast, besides the Columbia. Fresh from the salt, chrome bright summer kings first start appearing in early July well before other bays get their first chinook.

    AUGUST- SEPTEMBER
    On the heels of the summer run fish, fresh fall kings start entering the bay in August. In addition to the Nehalem fish there are a number of chinook from other river systems that also stage between the Nehalem jetty tips.

    AUGUST
    The Buoy 10 in Astoria, Oregon is an exciting fishery, attracting anglers from all over the country. The salmon caught at Buoy 10 are a mix of different stocks of coho (silvers) and fall chinook (kings).

    SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER
    Tillamook Bay and its tributaries produce the largest chinook on the west coast. The Tillamook fall fishery heats up in September and fresh fish continue to stack up until the fall rains flush them up the rivers.

Sky has been a licensed US Coast Guard 6-Pack Captain for 25 years with 10 summers guiding in Alaska and 15 years experience as a full-time licensed guide in the Pacific Northwest targeting salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon for clients in Oregon.

Sky puts a heavy emphasis on teaching and having fun while maintaining the highest standards of ocean & river safety.
